Sustainability

Sustainability is an integral element of our business strategy.

We pursue a comprehensive sustainability approach that integrates environmental, social, and governance (“ESG”) considerations across our operations, decision‑making processes, and supply chain.

Our ESG activities are guided by our sustainability strategy BEYOND, which defines the strategic framework, priorities, and targets across tk accelis.

We focus on decarbonizing the business of both our customers and our own company.

The goal of our strategy: net zero emissions by 2050 across our entire value chain.

Driving sustainability across the entire value chain. We are guided by the ESG dimensions and consider them in every decision-making process, business operation and customer solution.

Our sustainability journey reflects the transformation of tk accelis.

What started with individual initiatives has evolved into a strategic approach that integrates environmental, social and governance considerations into business decisions, customer offerings and daily operations. Decarbonizing the value chain is a central goal for us. To reach this goal, we aim to achieve net zero emissions across our entire value chain by 2050. Four levers are especially important on our emissions-reduction path: Reducing our energy consumption, transitioning to alternative drives and renewable energies and electrifying our processes. One example of measurable emission-reduction is part of the tk accelis Processing Europe steel service center network: Our site in El Puig can significantly reduce emissions through several measures, including the use of LED lighting systems, the switch to electric forklifts and, finally, a large photovoltaic system. We are also innovating on the road, with the first HVO trucks having entered service in the UK in 2024, and the first trucks running on biofuels in the US, with more to follow.

We are committed to be a preferred provider of CO₂e‑reduced products and services and to support our customers in reducing emissions across their value chains. We want to reduce the indirect emissions of our value chain (Scope 3) by 30% until 2030. With our Product Carbon Footprint Calculator (PCF Calculator), we offer a precise way to calculate the emissions across our product portfolio. We believe this transparency will help our customers meet their environmental goals.

Sustainability = leadership

Acting sustainably also means achieving leadership development objectives to be pursued through lawful equal opportunity practices and merit-based advancement. The constantly rising share of women in executive positions represents this ambition. Furthermore, we support and accompany young people as they enter the workforce, for example through the JOBLINGE initiative or our U.S. scholarship. As a responsible member of society, a safe working environment and responsible behavior are essential to building trust and ensuring long-term success. That is why the safety of our own workforce is especially important to us.

Finally, respect and cooperation are the basis of our corporate governance. Hence, we are committed to ethical business practices and actively work to improve social standards in our supply chain.

This includes strict adherence to human rights and environmental standards, as well as continuously reducing the share of high‑risk suppliers in the risk supplier base. We take responsibility for people and the environment throughout our supply chain. In addition to these global policies, we rely on tailor-made innovations, large and small, to drive our defined goals in and at our sites.

Frequently asked questions

How do we help our customers successfully implement and comply with sustainability standards?

We believe that transparency is central to achieving these objectives. We have developed a PCF calculator designed to enable item‑level “cradle‑to‑gate” CO₂e calculations across our product portfolio. For us, this is the basis for long-term decarbonization of the supply chain. The PCF Calculator is the right tool for all our customers to help drive individual sustainability strategies while reducing emissions.

What products do we offer to reduce emissions in the supply chain?

We offer a curated low-carbon product range developed in cooperation with selected mills intended to support the CO₂e reduction. For details on individual products or materials, best get in touch with our sales teams.

How do we drive sustainability in the materials industry?

Our expertise in sustainability goes beyond CO2e-reduced material. We support our customers in analyzing their current processes, identifying optimization potential, and implementing measures that contribute to more sustainable value creation. We support our customers in developing a sustainable marketing strategy and bringing their CO₂-reduced product lines to market. In doing so, we combine our marketing expertise with our sustainability know-how and many years of experience in planning and managing complex supply chains to deliver the best results for our customers’ business.
